Million Mile Joe honored with 2012 Honda Accord and parade

Joe LoCicero a 53 year old man from Norway, Maine has done the unthinkable. He has driven his 1990 Honda Accord over 1 Million Miles! To celebrate this extremely amazing accomplishment, Honda threw a surprise parade in Saco, Maine for “Million Mile Joe” as he as come to be known.
The parade, along the Main Street of Saco, was complete with a giant odometer float powered by six people spinning life-sized hamster wheels. An airplane flew over with a banner that read “Way To Go Joe.” Local schools got involved as well, as students from Biddeford High School made floats to honor Joe. One of the creative floats was a replica of Joe and his 1990 Honda Accord nicknamed, “True Blue” due to its light blue color and a road adorned with banners marking special life occasions like Graduation, Just Married, Another Road Trip, and Million Mile Joe! The Westbrook High School marching band and color guard performed, and the Saco Middle School Marching Band performed as well. Shoestring Theater stilt walkers were part of the parade. Over-the-top costumed characters walked the streets, which included one person dressed in a number "1" costume with six other people dressed in "0" costumes, maps of Maine, and a pine-tree car air freshener. Joe and his wife, Sharon, happily waved to the crowd.
The parade interrupted a brief press conference where Joe received an oversized key to a new 2012 Honda Accord EX from Ashley Marble, Ms. Maine. The new car is a well earned gift from Honda to Million Mile Joe, but what is in store for “True Blue?” Joe is uncertain about what to do with his 1990 Honda Accord since he has new Honda Accord, complete with a lot of safety features and creature comforts his old Accord lacks. He was going to try to sell it for $1 million to a Honda dealership so they could showcase Honda's reliability, durability, and longevity but so far nobody has taken him up on his offer. (ummm.... really?!?)
“We at Honda are extremely proud of Joe. His accomplishment is really a testament to the reliability of the Honda Accord,” said Jessica Fini, a Honda PR spokeswoman. Tom Peyton, Honda's brand manager adds, "Joe's journey is a testament to his Honda's reliability and how people have come to count on Honda for more than 50 years to get them to where they need to go.”
A normal driver clocks around 10,000-15,000 miles on their odometer every year. It took Joe 15 years to get 1 million miles driving 62,500 miles a year. It would take an average driver 66-80 years to get to 1 million miles. That is farther than the average lifetime of 7 cars. Additionally 1 million miles would take you around the globe 40 times, it would be 4 trips to the moon... and back, and it would cost you $2 million in a taxi fare.
According to Honda, Joe is the the first person officially documented to have put 1 million miles on a Honda vehicle. Joe should feel quite proud of his accomplishment. Congratulate him on the Honda Facebook page

This year has been much like a rollercoaster ride - not only for Mazda but for the automotive industry as a whole. From the lows of the devastating March earthquake and tsunami in Japan to the highs of the announcement of our allnew SkyActiv Technology, Mazda's been through quite a year.
We were fortunate to be far enough away from the quakehit area in Japan, therefore not experiencing any physical damages. Thankfully, our employees were safe but, unfortunately, families and relatives of our employees and also our dealers and suppliers in the affected areas suffered enormous damage.
Our production plants weren't directly affected, but we were forced to shut down production for a period of time due to lack of parts from our suppliers, whose plants were directly impacted.
Thanks to a tremendous amount of hard work and determination, production plants have returned to normal and we are back to full production capacity.
To put the overall industry losses into perspective, approximately 285,000 vehicles were lost each production work day that global light-vehicle production was not functional.
Despite extensive losses in the automotive industry, the Canadian automotive market witnessed a 2.7-per-cent growth over the first half of 2011 - an encour-aging statistic, to say the least. However, a slight loss of sales momentum among North American-sourced Japanese models demonstrated that the impact on supply reached far and wide.

The recent discovery of 2010 Toyota Mark X was sporting a makeover of the Tokyo Auto Salon with the presentation of G Sports branded products, the concept of model. Rear wheel drive sports sedan, which is based on the Lexus GS boasted a full body kit with new front bumper, which includes daytime running lights LED lights, hood and fender vents, a thick side skirts, fiber roof carbon fiber spoiler and trunk, and a new rear bumper with diffuser and side vents.

Toyota G Sport Division organized the standard Mark X 318HP 3.5-liter V6 engine improved, but the size of the braking system sedan and mid-suspension equipment, while they also added underbody panels to improve the aerodynamics.
The automaker plans to launch the Sport versions of the G most of the JDM models from this summer. Outside the Mark X, Toyota also showed G concepts based on the FT-86 sport coupe, Noah and Voxy trucks and Prius hybrid.

HondaJet Likely To Be First Of A Family
By George C. LarsonGreensboro, N.C.As Honda Aircraft begins its sixth year, it is advancing cautiously but relentlessly toward the 2012 scheduled certification of its $4.5 million HA-420 HondaJet.
One pacing item for the airplane’s overall approval is its turbofan engine, the HF-120. A product of GE Honda Aero Engines, the powerplant, equipped with a full authority digital engine control (Fadec), first ran in 2009 and became available for testing on a conformal aircraft for the first time in 2010. Its developers report “steady progress” and expect to receive FAA certification of the 2,095-lb.-thrust engine by year-end.
Although the aircraft program has been delayed by more than a year, the Honda organization appears to be unhurried—paced, no doubt, by the precipitous drop in the global economy and subsequent fall-off in light-jet sales. Meanwhile, it continues to be guarded about the precise health of the order book, which has stood at “over 100” for years now.
The company says aircraft testing has proceeded on schedule, and the conformal aircraft, which first flew in December 2010, recently surpassed its specified 420-kt. true airspeed with a flight to 425 kt. Five aircraft are to be involved in the certification trials.
In an industry familiar with failed startups, a visit to Honda Aircraft’s Greensboro, N.C., headquarters at Piedmont Triad International Airport makes clear very quickly that one of the world’s largest automakers is in the aircraft business for the long haul. The tidy campus, and the offices and workspaces contained therein, are austere and functional, in keeping with the company’s culture. But the amount of investment in evidence and 263,000-sq.-ft. production facility leaves no doubt that Honda is looking beyond this first light jet and toward follow-on products.
CEO Mishimasa Fujino only hints at that scenario, saying, “We cannot sustain a company with one product.” Future models might not feature the HondaJet’s unique engine-over-wing design, he has said, but would likely incorporate concepts that are equally innovative.
The company could have reduced the amount of its bet by outsourcing much of the testing and research on both its original proof-of-concept aircraft and the production conforming models in FAA certification testing now. But Honda decided to do it all in-house, and has not scrimped in the process.
One employee estimates the total investment in buildings and equipment at roughly $100 million, but that seems low. On campus are complete full-scale structural test rigs equipped with dozens of computer-controlled actuators, an advanced system-integration test facility that “flies” a virtually complete airplane as represented by its principal systems, and a fully staffed telemetry facility that can capture 2,500 data streams.
This is not to say that Honda is not availing itself of numerous suppliers from all over the world.
The plant as configured now is planned around assembly of finished components, not ab initio manufacture. Just one example: Hampson Aerospace of Grand Prairie, Texas, a subsidiary of a parent company in the U.K., will provide completed empennage assemblies. And more: GKN Aerospace, a composites fabricator in Tallassee, Ala., supplies fuselage components. Avcorp, a subcontractor in British Columbia, will supply parts of the wing. Garmin’s G3000 avionics will light up the panel.
Aircraft will follow two parallel paths and emerge from the now completed final assembly facility, empty for the moment, then undergo systems installation, completion and painting at Greensboro.
Fujino expresses satisfaction with the Carolina workers, citing “good quality” and “a strong work ethic.”
The workforce is young—tablet notebooks are everywhere—with some notable experienced heads such as Mark Ard, vice president of engineering and a former Gulfstream executive, in key management slots. Fujino notes that just four years ago the company had 40 employees; now the figure is 600-700, with another 200-300 expected in 2012 when production gets under way in earnest.
The light jet’s legend started as Fujino’s vision and a cursory sketch in 1997. The unconventional engine arrangement employing overwing mounting is said to save room in the fuselage for a total of 66 cu. ft. of baggage (9 cu. ft. in a forward compartment and 57 aft of the cabin; it’s not accessible in flight). The combination of drag-reducing natural laminar flow over the wing’s advanced airfoil and the unusually shaped bulbous nose are what Honda says provides up to 30% gains in efficiency over the competition. Efficiency may sell on paper, but Honda appears to be placing more of its marketing bet on cabin appeal. To that end, the Greensboro facility has a complete and well-equipped design studio.
Fujino says the single-pilot-certified version is marketed primarily to individuals and corporations rather than to fleet buyers, but the company portrays a 2+6 seating arrangement as well. The HondaJet faces stiff competition, particularly from Embraer’s Phenom 100 and the M2, Cessna’s new successor to the Citation CJ1+.

The Concept Cadillac Sky - pronounced "CL", the French translation of the sky - is a four-seater convertible that opens a new chapter in the design of Cadillac and rising product, pushing the art of the brand and the philosophy of science in a new layer. Heaven is a new expression of the historical grandeur of Cadillac, and a celebration of the open-top driving.
"Great Luxury Cadillac innate expression and the sky, remember that heritage, while suggesting that the brand can go in the future," said Clay Dean, global design director for Cadillac. "Luxury is driven by the authentic experience, not just products, and the sky is the travel experience."
Driving the California Highway 1 in an open car when the sun goes down, Big Sur north of Monterey, is a mobile team Ciel type expected during design.
"It is Heaven on the romance of the training," said Dean. "It emulates the grand tour cars seen on the greens of Pebble Beach, but with a modern twist that the draft vision for the future of Cadillac ".
